WHO WE ARE

Founded in 1969 the Turkish Educational Foundation (TEF) is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity organization dedicated to educating needy children in Turkey.

TEF's mission is a) to provide scholarships to children from low-income families for them to continue their education, and b) to furnish educational materials for schools in villages and disadvantaged districts of cities to improve the quality of education. The scholarships are based on a need and merit basis, with no religious or ethnic criteria.

OUR

SUCCESS STORIES

At TEF, all scholarships are based on a need and merit basis, with no religious or ethnic criteria. Each TEF scholarship is one-year long, but students continue to get scholarships until they graduate from high school as long as they stay enrolled and successful in their studies.

WHY GIVE TO

OUR FOUNDATION

With COVID-19 still afflicting our communities, the health risks of in-person classes are first and foremost on the minds of students, their families, and educators around the world.  Economic challenges, unemployment and disparities make matters worse. During this time of urgent need, the Turkish Educational Foundation (TEF) is determined to continue supporting education in Turkey.

The future will be shaped by our children, and the choices they will make. Education is critical for them to be able to make informed and wise decisions for themselves, their families, their communities, and for our fragile planet. The best investment for a better world is the education of the  future generations. TEF believes in equality in education and is committed to providing scholarships to children in need . You can be part of TEF’s efforts by contributing to kids’ education today. 100% of your donations go to scholarships.

Direct Funding of Education

TEF is an entirely volunteer organization run by a member-elected board with no paid staff or office. All our expenses such as mailing costs, web fees, bank fees, etc. are fully covered by the Board. TEF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Public Charity Foundation. All your donations are fully tax-deductible and 100% of your donations goes towards education programs.

TEF has been a trusted partner for thousands of donors for over 50 years in giving students from low-income families the opportunity to continue their education, and thus break the cycle of poverty. TEF supports exclusively the students from rural areas and poor districts of mega cities.

Higher Priority for our

Female Students

At TEF, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing the issue of female student participation. From its inception, TEF has recognized education of female students as a critical investment for the future, since mothers play a prominent role in raising children. Therefore TEF has always given a higher priority to female students in the scholarship programs.

WHAT WE DO

Abstract Structure

HOW WE DO IT

In its mission to provide scholarships, TEF cooperates with local charitable foundations like Çağdaş Yaşamı Destekleme Derneği, Anadolu Çağdaş Eğitim Vakfı (ANAÇEV) and Darüşşafaka. These organizations search out likely candidates for TEF’s scholarship program and send the profiles of the students to TEF.

The Board of Trustees selects those with satisfactory academic record for scholarships. Each scholarship is for one academic year, but students continue receiving scholarships until they graduate from high school as long as they stay enrolled and are successful in their studies.
